Should schools ban junk food, wk5 t3

This week in writing we are learning about persuasive writing and our challenge is to write a persuasive piece of writing about if schools should ban junk food so here it is.

Why schools should ban junk food

Hello my name is Oscar and you might be thinking what is so bad about junk food? Junk food is high in fat and sugar. While it is delicious and convenient it is not good for you and you should only have small amounts.

What is the problem with junk food at school? Studies have shown that your body is working really hard to process the junk food because it's full of fat which reduces the oxygen level going to your brain. This means that students will have a harder time working as they will find it difficult to concentrate. Also Junk food makes it harder to work and listen.

At the moment if you bring junk food from home like candy and lollipops they will be confiscated but stuff like cake and cookies are fine but I think we should ban all junk food in school so we can concentrate with our work and give it our best. What are you having for lunch today?

  1. Hi Oscar
This is a great piece of persuasive writing! You have used rhetorical questions to draw in your reader and I have you have used "studies have shown..." as this makes your writing very factual and believable.
I had a delicious salad today full on veges, nuts and eggs. What did you have for lunch?

  2. Hi Oscar, great opening rhetorical question for your persuasive writing! You have drawn me in and got me thinking. I liked that you could back up your statements with facts.
I had a delicious chicken wrap full of salad for lunch today! I hope you had a healthy lunch like Mrs Carney and I had?

  3. Hi Oscar,
You made some good points for banning junk food. Do you think that students would be disappointed not having a little treat in their lunchbox, whether it be cake or a cookie?

    Thanks for sharing.
